Fees for breast reduction surgery

No one likes fee surprises so it's always best to know before you have the surgery what your out-of-pocket costs will be.

Here is a guide for some one who has private health coverage and opts for overnight stay in hospital. (guide only)

  • Surgeon costs: $12,000 depending on your healthcare coverage and medicare rebate you could be looking at $8,650 out of pocket
  • Anaesthetist costs: $2,250 with around $1,950 out of pocket
  • Hospital costs: $450 excess
  • Total: $11,050

Because your breast reduction is likely to be for medical reasons you are likely to be able to claim a portion of the costs indicated above for this operation. Medicare and your healthfund can assist you after your surgery.

Insurance coverage is sometimes available for breast reduction surgery. Many factors determine your eligibility, including the specific terms of your insurance policy and the amount of breast tissue to be removed. A letter of predetermination may be required by your insurance company prior to surgery. Your plastic surgeon or a staff member in your surgeon's office will discuss these matters with you.

Payment for the surgery and anaesthetist are required 1 week prior to your surgery. Hospital fees are required upon admission.

Initial appointment with Dr Burt is $250 and you will recieve $70 back from medicare.
